Amanda’s passion for nutrition was ignited during a food politics course while obtaining an Honours Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Sociology from the University of Toronto. Later on, Amanda pursued a degree in dietetics, and her passion for nutritional science has only grown. She enjoys unscrambling all the misconceptions, confusion, and myths around nutrition. She acknowledges the complexity of food; it is a wonderful vehicle which can not only bring health but can communicate love and appreciation for others. She believes the best way to achieve all those objectives is by getting back to basics. This means cooking with whole foods when possible. However, she never wants to let perfectionism be the enemy of good. With her counselling, she always takes a collaborative approach with clients.
Amanda completed her dietetic internship in hospitals, outpatient clinics and community settings. This wide breadth of experiences helped her identify her passion for personalized nutrition counselling. Since graduating from dietetics, Amanda has concentrated on healthy weight loss and observed the positive ripple effect weight loss can have on one’s life. She prioritizes continuing education opportunities by seeking out webinars, certifications and mentorships, as nutritional science is an ever-evolving field. In doing so, Amanda is able to provide the latest nutrition information to her clients.
Approach to Counselling
Amanda approaches counselling from a holistic perspective with an emphasis on behaviour change. She enjoys helping others gain the tools to make the changes they have always wanted to make but didn’t know how. She has witnessed lasting results by working with clients to identify and replace their current habit loops with healthier ones. Although nutrition education is essential to her counselling, nutrition goals can be difficult to sustain without a focus on effective implementation. Through this approach, her clients feel empowered to continue their healthy lifestyle beyond counselling.
